A downtown bike-share program and Union Station cycling hub are being proposed for the City of Los Angeles. Issues with advertising put things on hold, but now it looks like things are back on the table and would also include a regional program to include cities such as Santa Monica and West Hollywood. The 84 station, 840 bike program is tentatively scheduled to appear in 2016.


REQX is close to acquiring a majority stake in Alta Bicycle Share and giving a boost to Citi Bike. With the buyout, prices would be raised for annual memberships from $95 to about $140 and the service area would expand greatly. This would also be good news for Alta-operated systems in Chicago, DC, Boston, and San Francisco, which were holding back expansion plans due to problems with bike supply.


SunLine Transit Agency officials would like to bring bike share to the Coachella Valley. The bike-share program would initially be geared toward tourists, but it’s hoped that residents will also want to use the bikes to get around. It would be part of a new kind of transportation concept, CV Link, which would be the first to incorporate pedestrians, bicyclists, and low speed-electric vehicles in one project.


GREENBike, Salt Lake City’s bike-share program has doubled in size. The program started in April 2013 with 10 bike-share stations and 55 bikes and it has now grown to  20 stations and 160 bikes. City officials are still trying to keep up with rider demand.


Here’s proof that bike share is a genuine form of public transportation as regular users have been shown to significantly reduce their car use.  In some cities, bike share members are also freeing up space on the subways and buses as they use the bikes for short trips.
