Friends,

Back in March, when we said that 2013 would be the Year of the Bike Share, we really meant it. And we still do. For bike share, this is a year of firsts. Every style of bike share system is launching everywhere we look–and not just on city streets! They’re on college and corporate campuses, in storefronts, and among private residential associations. Existing systems are expanding; new systems are launching; bike share startups are springing up all the time and so are new technologies; lifestyle hacks have recently become commonplace in bike share systems; and in an otherwise slow-growing economy, the bike share industry is one of the booming bright spots.

Watching the bike share ecosystem grow and evolve so much this year is a pretty exciting experience for us here at Bikeshare.com. And we want to make it easier for you to see what we get to see every day in the fascinating world of bike share. So, we’ve spent the past few months retooling our website to do just that.

If you’ve been to our site before, you might have noticed that Bikeshare.com has a whole new look. We developed a fresh design, easier navigation, and more intuitive categories to help you make the most of Bikeshare.com. Now all the most important content is right up front. All the latest bike share news, research, job postings, and business opportunities are right there.

We’re also proud to debut our new Lifestyle section geared toward bike share riders and enthusiasts. As bike sharing grows, it is changing the way many people live in cities everywhere. Bike share riders face their own unique considerations sometimes distinct from bike-owning cyclists. For many, bike share is a new element of their lifestyles that needs special attention. The Lifestyle section will help navigate bike share riders through their daily lives in places that are still trying to figure them out. Check in regularly for content oriented around the emerging bike share culture.

And while we have built a new and better site, we didn’t dump the good stuff from the old site. If you enjoyed our coverage of the helmet law debate, our map of the top 10 cities desperately needing bike share, and our ongoing series like the Re-dock and Nuts & Spokes, it’s still all there. So is all the bike share news, research, and media. And you can still search and post jobs, RFPs, and company profiles.

Like we said, this is a year of firsts for bike share. This year, bike share is getting a national conference. Bikeshare.com has partnered with UC Berkeley’s Transportation Sustainability Research Center to collaborate on the first ever Shared-Use Mobility Summit on October 10 and 11 in San Francisco, California. The Summit is a two-day event facilitating a lively dialogue among mobility providers, policymakers, governmental agencies, non-profits, affiliated industries, technologists, academics, media and stakeholders on the current state of the practice, opportunities, and obstacles to market expansion. Register here by August 16th to get the special early registration price and save. And if you’re interested in sponsoring, vending, or speaking at  the summit, please contact matt@bikeshare.com.

As bike sharing progresses into places unknown, we look forward to having you join us as the path before us unfolds. Enjoy the new site! We’ll see you in October!

Keep riding,

The Bikeshare.com Team
