Tampa, FL. CycleHop, a bike share consulting, operations, and planning firm, has been selected by the City of Tampa to fund, deploy, and operate Tampa’s bike share program. 500 bikes, 300 during phase 1 and 200 during phase 2, and associated equipment will be provided by Social Bicycles and the program is expected to launch fall of 2013.
“Social Bicycles is excited to work with CycleHop to bring the next generation of bike share technology to the City of Tampa. Residents and visitors will soon be able to travel using a new environmentally friendly form of public transportation. Our bikes are equipped with a GPS-enabled locking system which will lock to bike racks found at hub locations throughout downtown Tampa. Our system is more affordable and scalable than other technologies, and we hope to quickly spread throughout the Tampa Bay region,” said Ryan Rzepecki, CEO of Social Bicycles.
This is the first time that CycleHop and Social Bicycles have teamed up to supply equipment and operate a bike share system, and it will be the first municipal-wide bike share program to feature “smart bikes.”
